A suspension of Ketawaspreparedby trypsinization of stock cultures in Blake bottles. After determining the cell count with a hemocytometer the suspension was diluted with medium to give a c@int of' 75,000 cells per 0. 9 ml. Using an automatic pi pette, 0. 9 m:1@. of the Hela suspension was delivered into each of the cups of the plastic panel and the test compound added in 0.1 ml. saline or in 0.1 ml. of'0.5 per cent carboxymetbylcellulosein saline (CMC).

Rapid screening test for enterotoxin-producing Bacillus cereus.
Culture supernatants of 30 enterotoxin-producing Bacillus cereus isolates produced a characteristic progressive destruction of McCoy cell monolayers. Enterotoxin-negative B. cereus and other group 1 Bacillus spp. caused no monolayer disruption. The McCoy cell tissue culture system appears to provide a rapid screening assay for detection of enterotoxin-producing B. cereus.
